Our Story

"In 2005, tragedy struck my family. Faith, one of my identical twin girls, died from lung failure and cardiac arrest. At 12 weeks in utero Faith was diagnosed with a hyperplasia of the heart. Children's Hospital began to follow the pregnancy after realizing that she had no left ventricle. We were told that she would have little chance of survival if her heart did not mature throughout the pregnancy.

When Faith and Jaclyn were born, they were transported immediately to Children’s Hospital for emergency neonatal care. When Faith was only one week old, and just over 3lbs, she underwent heart surgery. Recovery was tough for her those first few days after surgery, but within one week she was gaining weight again. Without warning, three weeks later she died. After the autopsy was completed Children's found out Rachel and Faith Rachel and Jaclyn Rene, 1 day old, Children’s Hospital Center Washington, DC the cause of death was due to Multiple Hyperplasia of the Lung.

Throughout the time that Jaclyn and Faith were hospitalized I wondered why so many families had to endure so much pain.

With all the technology and the medical breakthroughs, why are these children still dying?
